Jailbreak attempt

After a day of successful packing procrastination, I was finally throwing some carefully selected items into my suitcase which was parked in the doorway facing Addison's room. When I glanced up, I saw a blond sticking up over the top of the crib, tiny hands gripping the railing, and a little girl with a triumphant smile on her face.

So even though I said I wasn't going to post a new post today, I had to share her big accomplishment. Chubbs pulled herself up in her crib for the very first time. By the time I had got there, she had gracefully descended into the splits.

By the time I got the camera and returned, this is what I saw:

She has discovered that she can access the world outside of her crib by using the skills that we practice in therapy, and she's quite happy with her new knowledge...
ecstatic, really.

She wouldn't pull up to stand again while I was watching her (because I turned up the top extension so she physically couldn't), but she did keep flipping up onto all fours and rocking back and forth.

And pulling up onto her knees (which if you look at all of the blankets she was wading through, is quite impressive)

and laughing about her new discovery.
Every night for a week now she's been falling asleep in funky, uncomfortable positions that looked as through she was mid-flight when slumber struck. It makes sense now....little Chubbs was attempting a jail break.
unsuccessfully.... (thank goodness)
So proud of my little girl. It is seriously all about motivation for her. She was breaking out skills that she's refused to do all doubt trying to earn a get out of jail free card....I will carry those smiles and looks of proud success with me as I leave her tomorrow. What an amazing little girl Chubbs is!

When it takes longer to reach the normal just feels that much better when we finally get there. I think when she finally starts to walk, I just might have a stroke from the excitement.

  1. Dearest Deanna - your journey with Chubbs is just beginning. Like the tip of an iceberg she will continue to reach higher and higher achievements, as she grows and develops into the person the Lord has ordained her to be. We love both you sooooo much. Grampa and Aunto Kenly will try and keep Aaron on the straight and narrow while you are gone. No telling what kind of trouble he and Chubbs might get into when you are away. Can you spell cremee? Have a great trip with your band.

  2. Chubbs is amazing! Do you think maybe we could coerce Aaron into continuing the daily blog posts while you're away?? Just think of the positive implications:

    1) You wouldn't lose any of your dedicated following due to missed daily posts.
    2) Aaron would, most assuredly, have much to share and entertain us with in your absence...

    3) The accountability factor would be HUUUGE.

    Just a thought! haha

  3. Go Addison!!! Pretty soon she'll stand there proudly for you to photograph and share with the world! Her smile makes my day...I just love her!

  4. Addison even has on the proper stripped outfit for her jail break! This was an exciting posting to hear of Addison's newest accomplishment! We'll be praying that you will have a wonderful trip. Your dad will be traveling to St. Louis for a choir trip while you're on your band trip! Exciting days! I love you and am very proud of you!

  5. That is so awesome Deanna!! Addison is amazing and she just goes from one thing to the next, its so fun watching her hit all these milestones! And I agree with you, the extra long wait for them makes them all that much more exciting when they happen. Laughed so hard when I read you saying you might have a stroke when she walks...I feel the same way with Russell!

  6. Way to GO sweet girl! I completely agree why waist your energy on practice when you have something as exciting as busting out in mind!

  7. Way to go Chubbs! Claire gets so excited too when she learns a new trick. I do too of course, but seeing Claire and Chubbs so happy for thier accomplishments is just awesome!

  8. I am fulling expecting to see a post from Aaron this weekend since Deanna is gone and perhaps even a view of Addison in Carharts or something. I guess that would be another way to break out, too . . . .

  9. Thank you so much for shaeing. Please add my e-mail address to get your blog. Thank you. Susan

Thanks for reading about my Everything and Nothing. I would love to hear from you!
