Addison's first playdate

While in the NICU, Addison made a friend one isolette over. This is the first chance that we have had to have a playdate with Drew since they have both been released from the NICU. Yay!

Most of the playdate, Addison spent sunning herself on her boppy throne seemingly oblivious to her company. We are working on her hostess skills. This is a picture of Drew and his wonderful Mom, Sarah...a member of the elite NICU club. (-:
I jokingly refer to it as such, but it is really amazing how you really can't totally understand the NICU experience unless you have been through it yourself. It is very hard and it really helps to have the support of friends and family. I am thankful everyday for the wonderful care Addison received while in the NICU, but I am also thankful everyday that it is over. If I had to sum up the experience, I would have to say that it is like watching nurses and doctors mother your baby while you have to ask them permission and have them staring over your shoulder when you try...and then you have to go home to an empty nursery. Not to mention the physical concerns and the middle of the night phone calls like the one saying that Addison started bleeding and couldn't stop so they were giving her a blood transfusion or them telling me her g-tube surgery was at a certain time but by the time I got there I found out that they moved it up an hour because of an opening...nothing about this is ideal. One good thing that came of it was- I got to meet Sarah and Addison got to meet her good friend Drew. (-:

We tried to get a good picture of us both holding our babies, but they both decided to start fussing as soon as we tried...thus, the laughter

Part of the playdate included going for a nice long walk out in the beautiful spring weather. You can see that Addison looks thrilled to be all bundled up in her "spring" attire. A shout out goes to Evan and Sheila who sent this really cute outfit for Addison (including a puffy vest) the vest is still a little long, but the rest of the outfit fits really well.

Addison has been putting in her tummy time, working hard at rolling over. She is so close....This is a snapshot mid-workout....just swing those legs up a little bit higher.....

Overall, a wonderful day was had by all. Addison spent time cultivating her friendship with Drew and two Moms who have a shared experience spending some time catching up and enjoying a beautiful spring walk with their babies. I can't think of a better way to spend a day!

  1. Deanna, those friendships you form with other moms in those early months are priceless!! Especially when you've gone through such a unique experience. Drew is such a cutie, and Addison looks so cute in her spring clothes :)

  2. Deanna, I just read your whole blog and I think this is a great idea! Addison is so adorable! I am so happy to hear that she's doing well. -Kari from Wells Fargo
